Recommendations for a patient undergoing a home whitening procedure

The teeth whitening procedure is a medical procedure that requires medical knowledge and skills. If the procedure is not performed by a doctor and is not performed in a clinic, you may get serious dental problems and complications, the consequences of which are very often unpredictable.

Carefully follow the following recommendations and protocols prescribed to you by your attending physician. Neither you nor anyone else can change the course of the procedure at will. Otherwise, the doctor and the clinic cannot bear any responsibility for any unauthorized violation of the prescriptions.

1. Mouthguards with whitening gel are worn only on previously cleaned teeth.

2. Apply the gel to the mouthguard from a syringe with whitening gel, as shown by the attending physician during the consultation. A drop of gel with a diameter of 2-3 mm is applied inside the mouthguard to the surface covering the outer surfaces of the teeth.

3. Carefully put on the mouthguard, carefully pressing the edges. It is better to do this in front of a mirror at first. If the mouthguard does not fit completely, do not use force. It is better to remove it and, carefully aligning it with the jaw, try putting it on again.

4. Carefully clean off any excess gel that has squeezed out from under the mouthguard with your finger or a cotton swab.

5. Carry out the whitening procedure according to the protocol issued by the attending physician (depending on the brand and concentration of the gel.

6. After the procedure, slowly and carefully dry the edge on both sides with your fingernail - remove the mouthguard.

7. Rinse the mouthguard under running water, brush off excess gel. Place the mouthguard in a protective case.

8. Do not skip scheduled check-ups.

9. During whitening, the color of the teeth may change, white stripes or spots may appear.

10. In no case should you increase the procedure time arbitrarily!

11. If possible, do not skip the procedure. If this happens, contact your doctor!

12. In case of sensitivity or pain, try to notify your doctor immediately (as much as possible). If this happens at night, take any painkiller (paracetamol, ibuprofen, nimesulide) 1 tablet and inform the doctor in the morning.

13. During the course of home whitening, it is allowed to consume any vegetable and protein products, moderate consumption of red wine, coffee, black and green tea, and moderate smoking is also allowed.
